What Is The Best Hunting Dog Breed?

I'm about to start hunting, and I'm going to buy a new dog to train for hunting. I want a dog that can do it all, Hunt birds, rabbits, deer, squirrel, and waterfowl...any idea of a dog that hunt and do anything??

I was thinking a RedBone Coonhound, but I've heard different.

Please helpWhat Is The Best Hunting Dog Breed?
I have always had a sweet-spot for black Labs. They are easy to train, loyal and very flexible between hunted game. What Is The Best Hunting Dog Breed?
The world of hunting dogs is much too specialized to have a dog that can do it all. And you really don't want one to.Some breeds will do a few things such as retrieve and point. Others will tree but wont point or retrieve. Narrow down the list that you want the dog to do. And it is actually aggravating to want to rabbit hunt with your dog and have him run deer which may not even be in season. And once they run the deer they are hard to got off the trail. And that day is wasted for you. This is what you can do though. For squirrel hunting and coon hunting you can get the same dog to do both, and it will not interfere with you hunt. Most of the hound breeds will do this, but the easiest to train is the Mountain Cur. He'll be a great dog for this.

Then if you want a dog that will point and retrieve, the Weimaraner will do both. That leaves the rabbits and deer . You need to get the best rabbit hound on earth- the beagle. That's what the beagle specializes in -rabbits. Then the deer dogs- most hounds will run deer- the bluetick, redbone, walkers, even beagles if broke of running rabbits. And most dogs will run deer such as the cur dog. So to hunt everything you will need 4 different dogs. But in all fairness the Weimaraner was bred to do several things . A good one can be trained to point, retrieve and tree. If you had one that would do that, it would just leave the deer and the rabbit dog to get.Good luck!
I doubt that coon hound will like water like a good black LAB.

Black Labs will hunt or chase anything and can be trained to do almost anything and cold does not hurt them that much.

They have a great nose and love to retrieve. Got to put my money on a nice Black Lab first.

I do not know much about the brown lab but i know the golden retriever seems a little silly and hard to train and likes to start playing while hunting which is a bad thing.

I had several friends who had goldens and all they did was chase my dog while hunting or acting dum and silly...and just laying down on the job.

Soory golden fans....they make a nice pet.
Labs are good dogs, so are Brittany Spaniels- Brittany's love water, and they are also a bird dog- they'll point, flush, retrieve, track.. I prefer a Brittany over a Lab, but that's just me. Also, Brittany's are not as big as a lab. A good size lab can get WELL over 100 lbs.

Chocolate, Yellow, and Black Labs, Brittany Spaniels, and Goldens are great dogs.
I dont know that there is a dog that can do it all, but one that comes close is the Drahthaar. Check them out, a friend of mine has one and the dog is incredible.

We own Brittanys, they are great upland dogs but are a bit small for waterfowl. A decent size mallard gives our dogs some trouble, and Canadian Geese are far to large.
Labradors are excellent hunting dogs
no such thing,...thats like a miracle dog
