If your budgets big enough then consider a semi-auto..... Remington, Mossberg and Binelli all have nice models.....

Ethan, interesting question you've asked. The best bird hunting shotgun would be the one you are most comfortable with, are accurate with, safe with, and is easy to carry. The auto loaders like the 1187 and the Browning autos are nice to carry, have excellent second shot placement and can be customized to fit you rather economically. Benelli also makes a nice auto, depending on your budget. I find more Benellis to be more of a range gun.

In the pumps you have several good choices, the Remington 870 and the Mossbergs are very nice guns and very affordable. The nice thing I like about a pump gun is the ease of barrel change over if I want to go to a slug or duck barrel without alot of change over time. I own both of these but my favorite pump is the Ithaca Model 37 with the hold down trigger.

And then we have the double guns, I'm not a big fan of side by sides in the field because of the field of vision that they take up. I do however like several of the over and unders. Here's where your budget will come into play. New O/Us can cost between $399 and $15,000 depending on the options and manufacture. Its hard to beat a Beretta or Winchester in any of their O/U models.

As for gage selection, again it depends on your comfort level and the game your hunting. For quail and dove in the Carolina's a 20 gage is alot of fun and easy on the shoulder after a full day in the woods. For ducks and the larger birds a 12 gage is something to consider.

If you looking for a comfortable carry, ease of shooting, and less felt recoil the remington auto would definately deserve a good look. You can always shop around for a good used one at gunshops and pawn shops. Hope this helps, good luck and good hunting.
Remington 1100 20 ga. My not be the best according to some but it is affordable and an excellent shotgun.

If you want to go for something a lot more general, you can go for the 12 ga. But if you nail a quail at close range, there won't be much left. The 12 will make an excellent dove or pheasant gun as well.
If you're talking about upland birds, I'd use a 20 ga, 28 ga, or a .410 bore, double barrel or single shot. You want a light gun that you can carry comfortably all day.

For waterfowl, I'd use a 12 ga pump action or auto-loader
Always stick to 12 gauge since it comes in a variety of guns and different types of shells. A good hunting shotgun would be the following: Remington, Mossberg, Saiga, and Benelli.

I'd recommend a semi-auto Remington, such as the 1100, in either 12 or 20 gauge, with interchangeable choke tubes. If you need to save some money, a pump Mossberg with Improved Cylinder would be nice.
I would use the a Remington 870 12 gage because you can use it for many other things.
Remington 1100 20 gauge, have owned gun for over 10 years not 1 problem with it.
Mossberg 500 in 20ga, or Remington 870 in 20 ga.
Benelli Nova 12ga.
I use a Remington 11-87 when i dove hunt and quail hunt in south carolina
I would say a good gun for hunting is a gun that can shoot bullets
410 or 20 gauge shotgun
standard 9mm pistol with scope.
model 50 winchester mod choke ok thanks edie
A 4-10, 20 gauge or 12 gauge
