Hunting. What has more power a 22 rifle or a 22mag rifle and by how much?

22 lr has 29% stopping power, 22 mag has 42% stopping power. This is determined by the power in one shot, so the mag has more power. However, 22lr is much more common and cheap than the magnum so I would suggest it for small game. For larger game, I would suggest a 223 (5.56 mm) savage rifle. it has amazing accuracy and is cheap.Hunting. What has more power a 22 rifle or a 22mag rifle and by how much?
The hottest .22 LR round I know of, the .22LR Aquilla hyper-velocity round, delivers around 204 ft-lbs of muzzle energy shooting 30 grain bullets at 1750 fps. The runner up, the CCI Stinger delivers 191 ft-lbs of muzzle energy shooting 32 grain bullets at 1640 fps.

CCI's .22 WMR Maxi-Mag TNT uses a 30 grain bullet at 2200 fps and delivers 322 ft-lbs of muzzle energy. That's pretty typical with the 40 grain versions only getting another 2 ft-lbs of muzzle energy and a decrease in muzzle energy for the 50 grain loads.

That means the .22 WMR loads typically are going to deliver 158% more energy at the muzzle. And given that the bullet weights are basically the same that should be fairly consistent throughout the bullets trajectory.Hunting. What has more power a 22 rifle or a 22mag rifle and by how much?
22LR = just shy of 200 ft/lbs of energy

22 mag = just over 300 ft/lbs of energy

so 22 mag is about 35% more powerful, or about 100-120 ft/lbs more powerful.

this translates into about 20-50 more yards of humane lethality for small game
The 22 Magnum has a Muzzle velocity of 2,250 feet per second.* The 22 Long Rifle has a Muzzle velocity of 1,435 feet per second.*... The 22 Magnum Wins.*~~
the 22 mag has more knock down power and can stretch that bit further for those longer shoots
22 mag homer!
