Why is a .45ACP highly effective on humans, but not recommended for big game hunting?

For example, a %26gt;45 is highly rated vs 250 lb human attackers, but considered WAY under powered for a 250 lb black bear. Why is a .45ACP highly effective on humans, but not recommended for big game hunting?
I use my 45acp for deer hunting and have had good results with it. If I came across a bear that was going to do me harm I think that it would do the trick. The reason you want to use the high power pistols for bear is because you want no room for error when messing with him. If you hit him in the head with a 45 you will probally be ok but if you are nervous and miss and hit the body then you would wish you had the larger caliber. Have read a lot of articles about big game hunting with pistols and there are a lot of them to choose from. Why is a .45ACP highly effective on humans, but not recommended for big game hunting?
Your going to have trouble finding a 250 lb bear. Grizzlies weight around 1000 lbs. I wouldn't want anything less than the .44 magnum, or the .454 Casual, or the.460 S%26amp;W, or Really preferable the S%26amp;W .500
In general, when used against a human attacker, the human is within about 10 feet of the person doing the shooting. At that range, the accuracy and range of a pistol round are fully adequate.

For big game, particularly dangerous game like black bear, you generally want something with a bit more range. Like say a .308 Winchester rifle, or even bigger.

Although the rifle round is smaller in caliber, it's actually much higher in kinetic energy and thus killing power because there's a lot more powder behind the round. A .308 round is about 5 inches long, most of that cordite, while a .45 ACP is only about an inch long.

.308 is also very very effective in taking down humans, but is not really suitable as a pistol round. You'd need a freakin' big pistol, and the recoil would make second and third shot groupings considerably... wide spread. It is very good in sniper rifles though, and was once the NATO standard military rifle round.
Pretty sure that a 45 round sinks like a rock and doesn't carry that much power for very long. Big game hunting you need a lot of power at long range. I use a 7mm.
