Can I use a tactical shotgun when hunting duck in Texas? (a shotgun with a 20'' barrel)?

It is quite possible to use a short barreled shotgun to hunt duck. First is the barrel and choke rated to safely use steel shot. If so, then continue, if not, you should change barrels and, in this case, longer is better.

After that, how successful it will be depends on your current choke or if you have an adjustable choke that allows you to use a full or extra full choke. As noted, shooting waterfowl and turkeys are usually a long distance shot (%26gt;25 yards, often 40) for shotguns. This requires a full choke to be relatively successful.

Again, longer is better. If you have a full choke in a short barreled shotgun, your pattern will remain similar to a longer barrel of the same choke. However, your accuracy will suffer. The longer barrel is generally easier to maintain lead and take a fast moving duck than a short barrel.

One caveat. Make sure you are legal. My Mossberg holds 6 shots, and to be legal for bird hunting the capacity should be 3. This is fixed with a simple dowel rod that will limit magazine capacity. Consequently, check with your local game warden about any and all firearm restrictions.

Good luck with your hunt, and have a great time.

BTW, real men do hunt, often, frequently and with great pleasure. Can I use a tactical shotgun when hunting duck in Texas? (a shotgun with a 20'' barrel)?

Legal yes, but a short barrel will spread out the shot giving you a loose pattern %26amp; thats not good for ducks unless they're close.
