I have shot a lot of small game with .222, and I don't think it is going to matter much because you're going to be blowing them in half. If you're hunting for skins I wouldn't recommend it. A high speed light bullet might even turn a rabbit to pink mist. You are in for some fun experimentation. You might first try a heavier and much slower bullet. Your rifle will have to answer this question for you. Not all rifle barrels perform the same so you will have experiment with several to find out what your particular firearm shots most accurately, my .223 likes 55 grain match loads the best. A lot of the lighter rounds I tried were just to inconsistent so I just kept trying different loads til I came up with the one that worked best for me so you will just have to try several combination's of bullets and powders, since you reload you should be able to work up something that shoots relatively accurate and consistent in your particular rifle
AS light as you can find....I think about 38-40 grains works well.
Rabbit %26amp; Fox? - 45-55 Gr. is optimal.
Use the 50 grain Pointed Soft Point works best.*

Now with the Chronic Wasting Disease, CWD that effects many deer in the central Wisconsin areas, hunting controls allow more deer to be harvested from these effected areas by issuing additional tags so the sportsmen can shoot more deer. This helps reduce the spread of the disease by thinning out the herds for a more healthy deer population. Also the sport hunter can donate any deer that he takes legally and donate it to food pantries for the homeless or needy. The Department of Natural Resources in Wisconsin can be proud of its efforts to maintain their herds and with continuous monitoring help the deer population become strong and healthy.

I hunt for the thrill of the chase and if I bag a Deer or Bear that is better too. Last year I had a little one come up and rub himself on my blind, I reached out and rubbed his head. This was almost as much thrill to me as that big 9 pointer I got in 1998, of course he almost turned inside out trying to run off. I hunt alone and enjoy the solitude and fresh air. I like the time limit and to see if I can out fox the heard this year in that time frame. Get a cyclone. An all ways buy extra slings, they brake on you when you don't expect it. I hunt birds with mine but have managed to kill possums. Use lead sinkers the size or normal marbles and you should be good. Dont use those shitty metal bb's. They don't work. They are only good when you put 3 or 4 in the pouch and shoot at small or flying birds.

I think the answer depends on a couple factors. First what do you intend to hunt. Second how accurate is the gun. And finally how close do you intend to shoot from. If you're asking about a Crosman 760 (the only pump pneumatic that's advertised with a 600 fps muzzle velocity), I'd say its sufficient for hunting, but that there are better choices that don't cost much more.
600 fps with a 7.6-8 grain pellet works out to around 6 ft-lbs of muzzle energy or slightly over. That's enough power to hunt most small game up to rabbit in size.(1) Honestly you could probably hunt rabbit with a 6 ft-lb gun, you just would have to get really close (15 yards or less) and limit yourself to head-shots. Even then you don't have much margin of safety (extra power). Based on what you're describing you'd be better off hunting birds and squirrel out to no more than 20-25 yards.
The big question is can your gun hit the kill zone. If its a Crosman 760, then you'll need to consider that question very carefully since that's not the most accurate pump airgun ever made. The kill zone on most small game animals ranges from .5 to 1.5 inches.(1) The Crosman 760 (base model) is a smooth bore gun. I've found mine is roughly capable of minute of soda can accuracy out to 60 feet. But I kinda doubt that its capable of much less than that, even with pellets.
Honestly, if you want to hunt with a pump pneumatic pellet gun, there are more capable guns which don't cost that much more. The Crosman 2100 delivers around 9 ft-lbs of muzzle energy and costs about $60-$75. Its probably your best option for an inexpensive hunting pneumatic. The Crosman 664 delivers around 6.5-7 ft-lbs of muzzle energy and costs about $50. Even the Daisy 880 delivers right about 7 ft-lbs of muzzle energy for a cost of $40. ok i have a bb gun that shoots around 600 fps and it is effective on possums raccoons all birds rabbits squirels. birds can take a shot just about anywhere and will drop as long as they r smaller than oh say 6 oz. squirels and rabbits have to be shot in the head/heart/lung anf raccoons and possums i have taken in a single well placed shot in the eye or at the base of the ear from up to 15 yards. a lead pellet is only effective on squirels/rabbits and smaller. if u use harder alloys it will get the job done on everything listed. i mostly use just bbs which drop a bird instantly and a squirel in seconds. the raccoon took a little longer to die cuz it had convultions. NOTICE for raccoons and possums it is legal to hunt them in ILLINOIS at any time because they have no closed hunting season and are unprotected. A liscense is required for all small game. I DO NOT HUNT SONGBIRDS! European starlings, rock pigeons and House Sparrows are the ONLY unprotected bird species in America that can be hunted at any time. PETA DONT GO ON THIS FORUM IF YOU DONT SUPPORT IT NO ONE CARES WHAT YOU THINK!

That is an extremely interesting article. I think they need to test for its effects on the environment or other organisms living in the area before they just open the door to it. What happens to the deer not recovered that were shot with an S.C. arrow? Are they in turn eaten by the local coyote and if so does the coyote receive any ill effects from the drugs? What about birds of prey that scavenge a deer carcass, do they die if they eat an S.C. killed deer? Can you still eat a deer that is killed with the drug? These are all qustions that should be answered before it is used in my opinion.

Well, a quality shotgun is going to be like a pump Remington, at about 250-350, but you may want to look at a single-shot .410. Many manufacturers, and because it is a shotgun, we arfe not talking about extreme accuracy. Yiou can probably get down to about $75 with a used single-shot. Go to your gun store, and ask for used .410's. You might be surprised...

Make sure you get one that will shoot slugs good for dear hunting . I know allot of people in hear don't agree with hunting but they will go to the market and buy meat and eat it just as you eat your game a dead animal is a dead animal no matter where you get it at . Anyway i have a 410 but its not for sale its an all around weapon . 22 riffle with bird shot is good for rabbit to

Why a shotgun? I use a Beaman air rifle. It will get them at 100 yards. Mine cost $144.00.
If you're going to hunt do it right get a 12 gauge and vaporize the critter. Be sure to use 00 shot so you won't have much to clean up! A sledge hammer would work well too.
Well, a quality shotgun is going to be like a pump Remington, at about 250-350, but you may want to look at a single-shot .410. Many manufacturers, and because it is a shotgun, we arfe not talking about extreme accuracy. Yiou can probably get down to about $75 with a used single-shot. Go to your gun store, and ask for used .410's. You might be surprised...
