Top choice but I differ on the barrel, get the interchangeable barrel set up, one rifled for slugs, the other with the rem-choke in it for upland game and duck. One gun multiple uses.

The Remington 870 is a tried and true platform. Chosen by police and hunters alike all over the country.
Buy one with a rifle slug barrel if your going to hunt deer. It will make a great deer gun out to 200 yards.
870 was my second shotgun(after a bolt .410 my dad found somewhere). Great gun.
He's right, buy a rifled barrel and practice.
